HPV Vaccination

Now you can prevent the risk of cancer by vaccination against Human Papilloma virus (HPV).

It has been proven that over 99% of all cases of cervical cancer are caused by certain strains of a group of viruses called Human Papilloma Virus (HPV).

the Bournville Surgery is able to offer the Gardasil HPV vaccine, effective in protecting against over 70% of the four strains, (Types 6, 11, 16 and 18) that cause not only this cancer but 90% of all genital warts.

Treatment provided 100% protection when administered to girls and young women between the ages of 9 and 15, and up to the age of 26, who have not yet been exposed to the risk of infection from a partner. The vaccine is less effective in young women who had already been exposed to one of the HPV types covered by the vaccine.

Treatment consists of a course of three vaccine injections, with a gap of two and then four months between them.
